Case with Interior Component Holders

Product CasePlastic Design and 3D Printing

The 3d design service caters to a 3d printed case with interior component holders.
These pockets provide space for communication components including holders, covers and brackets.

The design consists of 4 sections:

– The bottom in-situ interior
– Exterior panel
– Interior panel
– Top panel.

Design knowledge and details of interfaces, panels, layout and logos integrates with the brief.
The 3d printed case holds electronic and audio components and integrates its respective wiring.
Presentations are now accessible and convenient to show the audio-electronic components.
Custom exterior logos and inner casings integrate with the original case design.

Basic principles of mechanics apply when designing basic plastic structural components.
The viscoelastic behavior of plastics plays a role.
Absolute load magnitude, load duration and load type impacts further on the design.
Constant environmental factors create scenarios of thermal expansion or contraction.

Plastics under load deform over time and respond differently to continuous or instant loads.
Plastics will respond to loads differently as temperatures vary within their operating range.
Chemical and weathering factors can also influence how a plastic responds to a load.
A large safety allowance applies if no information is provided about loading or safety.
Assembly operations can impose high stresses on a part (snap fits, self-tapping screws).
Lastly decorating operations (paint, coatings) expose the parts to strong chemicals and solvents.

Interior Components: 3D Design and Communication Devices

In the instance of a case with interior component holders, various communication devices have proliferated especially with wireless technology and internet.
Many communications devices were as large, office-based, immobile machines, and gradually became smaller, lighter, and portable.
Telephones, computers and faxes are typical examples.

Demand exists for audio-electronic product cases especially when transported to distant locations.
This example is based on the design of such a portable requirement. The initial level of generality for this problem has been set by the client’s request for the design of a new, portable fax machine: it is a particular product type, and so the designer has some freedom to generate new product ideas, rather than just being constrained to product features.

Many special attributes is researched and specified, such as industry communication standards,
scanning and printing devices to be incorporated, etc.
We focus primarily on the key attribute of portability.
We need to know what features of ‘portability’ is important to potential purchasers
and users of the audio-electronic product case.

Typical users for a portable communications case include business representatives, engineers or others who travel in their work and communicate with their head office or other locations by means of documents such as drawings, order forms, etc.

Two distinct aspects of ‘portability’ emerge from this notion:

– The case carries comfortably and can be used easily.
– Its use in a wide variety of different locations (e.g. construction sites and suppliers’ factories).

Portability attributes to component strength and usability in potentially harsh or remote environments.

3D Design and Portability

Further research informs the case with interior component holders in terms of 3d design performance specifications for aspects of portability.

Specifying ‘carriable’ performance features is not adequate for suggesting a carry handle.
Nor is it adequate just to weigh a rival product and specify that as a maximum weight.
The distance and case transport duration affects the case design.
Experiments with users and maximum carrying times establishes an appropriate weight limit.
The case design also plans for a variety of locations.

One aspect of the typical use of such a machine is that it is not always possible to use it on a desk or other stable surface. Sometimes a use implies someone’s lap on a train or in an airport lounge.
The case must be small but also stable.
Some potential use can include during meetings
or conferences (e.g. by journalists faxing press releases).
Additionally, weatherproofing requirements or if the user might be wearing gloves,
with implications for the design of buttons, controls, paper feed mechanisms, etc.

Often, in remote locations there is no available power source, and so a portable fax machine must have its own batteries. But it may be that salespeople and others often use the fax machine in their car; therefore it could use in-car power, telephone and USB sockets.

The case with its components might be required to operate as a stand-alone multi-purpose machine, offering scanning and printing functions as well as sending and receiving voice and data messages.
It may be that the designers will want to suggest to the client something that is a kind of new product alternative, rather than being just a new product type.
